The Library is a quiet and comfortable space for students to come along at lunchtime and get lost in the world of books. It is supervised by our HLTA Miss Scott and English Department. We also have Library Ambassadors who support keeping the library tidy and are always on hand to help students to find books which meet their interests.

At Tarleton Academy, reading is at the heart of all we do and we host various events in our library throughout the year to promote reading and to encourage students to challenge themselves with reading, including Scholastic Book Fair, Poetry seminars and Author visits!

As soon as students begin school in year seven, they are invited to visit the library once a fortnight in their English lessons and are encouraged to exchange their books, earning plus points as they progress through their reading journey. Students are also provided with a reading journal to ensure that they regularly engage in reading.

As well as this, we have also invested in an innovative literacy improvement tool called Reading Plus. It is an online platform that helps students improve their reading fluency, vocabulary and understanding of text, whilst also encouraging them to read regularly. As your child progresses through the Reading Plus curriculum, they will study hundreds of words, whilst reading fiction and non-fiction texts regularly. They will also complete regular termly tests to ensure they are progressing in the programme.
