The election was decided by a simple majority of votes cast and we are pleased to announce that Karl Pateman and Jenny Ashcroft will be welcomed to the Local Academy Council as Parent Councillors. Both the successful candidates application are detailed below. Thank you to all candidates and to all the parents that took the time to vote, your support is very much appreciated.

Karl Pateman:

First and foremost, I’m a husband and father of four children. My oldest child, Emily, has just started life at Tarleton Academy in Year 7, starting what I hope will become a long and successful relationship between our family and the school.

It has been fantastic to see how quickly Emily has settled into life in our school. I’m determined to do all I can to help Emily succeed in her education and develop in every aspect of her life.

Professionally I am an enthusiastic; dedicated; loyal Senior Leader with a demonstrated record of delivery across Financial, Operational, Change and Technology roles within the financial services industry. I am a qualified trainer, coach and mentor who is passionate about creating opportunities to help people develop into the very best versions of themselves.

Skilled in Change, Transformation, Relationship Management, Risk Management, Process Improvement, MI & Analytics, Operational Excellence, Organisational and Technological Restructure, and Team and Performance Management. I believe my skills and experience would be an asset to this important role, helping the school to continue to grow and succeed. My calm and persuasive manner will ensure that the parent voice is heard, something which is important in the running of our school.

I promise to work hard with parents, teachers, the Head and other Councillors to help drive the continued improvement needed to provide our children with the best chance of success and will do my very best for our school and all our children.

Jenny Ashcroft:

I have over 20 years of experience working within the Voluntary sector. My degree in Community and Youth Studies alongside further professional development has enabled me to progress within the sector and I am currently a Children’s Services Manager for Barnardo’s. I manage 3 contracted services in Lancashire working with children and young people and have the responsibility for managing and supporting staff, safeguarding, compliance, finance, EDI and health and safety but most importantly ensuring positive outcomes for children and young people and developing opportunities for them to flourish.

Within my professional career my values are very much in line with those of the Academy. I believe young people are individuals and should be supported and encouraged to develop, not only on an academic level, but also on a social and emotional level. Developing resilience and creating a safe and nurturing environment is of paramount of importance to enable young people to fulfil their full potential.

For a number of years I chaired the PTFA at my sons primary school and enjoyed being involved within the school community, supporting them with fundraising and events.

Leadership, commitment, flexibility and organisation are some of the transferable skills I would bring to the role.
I would be delighted to be given the opportunity to making a difference to the education of the students at Tarleton Academy. I believe my professional experience and personal attributes would be of great benefit to the school and I would be a proactive and effective parent school councillor.
