Before Christmas, all members of F-AMC tutor group donated prizes and raised just under £40 on their tombola at the Christmas Fair. The students used the money to buy flowers, a plant and boxes of biscuits to take with them on a visit to South View Lodge Care Home in Hesketh Bank.

Students wrote to Mrs Beard, Manager of South View Lodge, asking if they could meet her and ask questions about what it is like to care for the elderly, particularly those with dementia. Nine students accompanied by Miss McGregor had the opportunity to visit the home during the afternoon of PSHCE day and residents and staff were delighted with the gifts and were more than happy to answer their many questions.

The highlight of their visit was when they were introduced to Minnie, a 97-year old resident. She amazed them all with her smiles and wonderful sense of humour.

Our students asked some very mature and pertinent questions to the staff and they learnt a great deal about what it is like to care for the elderly, particularly those with dementia. Students will now use this information to raise awareness of dementia when they deliver their assembly to the rest of Farah House later this term.
