Tarleton Academy Celebrates Another Outstanding Set of GCSE Results

Students at Tarleton Academy are flying high again this year after achieving outstanding examination results across the board. Early indications are that overall results are up an amazing 10% on the already strong results from last year, with 80% of all grades A*-C and 78% of students achieving a good pass in English and Maths, in what were undoubtedly tougher exams. This reflects another fantastic year at the Academy, with outcomes yet again far exceeding national averages and students performing at the highest levels across the board.

This year sees the introduction of the new GCSEs in English and Maths, which have been designed to be much more demanding. These superb results are therefore against a back drop of a turbulent national picture, with all schools being warned to anticipate disappointing and inexplicable results. In contrast Tarleton are celebrating overall Maths at 10% above the average for the remodelled GCSEs, with English Language an astounding 20% above national.

Celebrations continue across a broad range of subjects. 75% of students achieved A* - C in at least two sciences and a huge number of other subjects recorded strong performances particularly in Spanish, German, History, Geography, ICT, Computer Science, Food Technology, Religious Education, Music, Dance, Art & Design and Drama. This success demonstrates the far ranging talents of the students, ably supported by dedicated and skilled teachers and built on really positive and mutually supportive relationships with parents.

Outstanding individual successes are being celebrated at the very top end with six students achieving 9 GCSE qualifications at the equivalent of A*/A (Alex Hodge,  Rachel Brown, Oliwia Augustynowicz, William Saunders, Daisy Walsh and Ed Unwin), five students with the equivalent of 8 A*/A (Maddy Firth–Cook, Maddy Jeffrey, Ben Stewart, Harvey Antrobus) and with 7 A*/A (Molly Townson and Zuzanna Skoniecka). In addition to this there are many other notable successes across the ability range, with individual, relative progress remaining a strength at the school.

Tarleton Academy is also thrilled with the proportion of students achieving the new grade 9, with 15 grade 9s in all, which now represent the very top end of the ‘old’ A* in Maths and/or English.
