London, September 1939, and William Beech is one of many young children evacuated to the countryside as their world is sliding into war. Finding himself now living in the close-knit rural community of Little Weirwold, William strikes up an unlikely friendship with his curmudgeonly guardian, and aging widower, Tom Oakley. Before long, Tom, and the caring villagers are showering William with love and affection, something he was always denied by his cruel mother back home. But just as William is finally finding happiness, a letter arrives from his mother, ordering for his immediate return to London.
And so, a battle between love and hatred begins.

Tarleton Academy’s production of ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’
addresses universal themes of love, loss, the importance of community, and the power of artistic expression.
